Report: 49ers, Bears, Falcons, Jaguars, Ravens reached out about Brian Burns

Outside linebacker Brian Burns, once again, reportedly garnered quite a bit of outside interest. And the Carolina Panthers, once again, reportedly turned it all away.

According to ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Panthers rebuffed trade inquiries into the two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher from at least a handful of teams. He wrote the following on Saturday evening:

The Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers — two teams that wound up acquiring other pass rusher before the deadline — both expressed interest in Burns this year, sources told ESPN.

The Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens also reached out to the Panthers about Burns, according to sources.

But the Panthers shut down those teams just as quickly as they inquired and had no intention of trading the coveted Burns, according to sources.

This is the second consecutive year in which Carolina refused to trade Burns, even despite having not reached a long-term deal with their star defender. A report from Schefter back before the 2021 deadline noted that the Panthers rejected a pretty lucrative offer from the Los Angeles Rams—one that could’ve landed them at least a pair of first-round draft picks.

With no contract extension in place, Burns is currently playing on the fifth and final year of his rookie deal.
