A study commissioned by England's Football Association (FA) and conducted by the University of Nottingham has revealed evidence linking repetitive heading of soccer balls during a professional career to a higher risk of cognitive impairment in later life.
The research, which involved over 450 retired professional footballers aged 45 and above, was jointly commissioned by the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA).
