Republican Rep. Michael McCaul, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, recently disclosed an incident where he was detained by police at an airport near Washington, D.C. The event occurred earlier this month at Dulles International Airport.

McCaul admitted that he had become disoriented at the airport after consuming a mix of Ambien, a medication he took to aid sleep during his flight, and alcohol. This combination led to him missing his scheduled flight back to Texas.

In a statement, McCaul took full responsibility for his actions, acknowledging the mistake he made. He expressed regret for the situation and thanked the law enforcement officers who briefly detained him while he awaited a family member to pick him up.

Despite the incident, McCaul emphasized that it does not define his character and values. He recognized his imperfections as a human being but expressed his determination to learn from the mistake and strive to become a better person in the future.

McCaul, who was recently reelected to an 11th term in his district spanning from Austin to the Houston suburbs, has been a prominent figure in the political landscape.

Efforts to reach Dulles International Airport for comment on the matter were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
