Porter acknowledged Vice President Kamala Harris's efforts to address these issues during the presidential campaign but noted that the message may not have reached voters due to the abbreviated nature of the campaign and the disruptive impact of former President Donald Trump.
Despite opting not to seek reelection in her Southern California swing district and pursuing a Senate bid instead, Porter's district, the 47th District, remains closely contested with a potential shift towards Republicans as votes continue to be counted.
Currently, House Republicans hold 212 seats, while Democrats have 202, with both parties vying to secure the 218 seats required for a majority. In the Senate, Republicans have gained control, securing at least 52 seats thus far.
