Rep. Horsford Condemns Trump's Racist Remarks On Kamala Harris

Republican presidential candidate Trump campaigns in New Hampshire

Nevada Rep. Steven Horsford, who is a Democrat and the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, strongly criticized former President Donald Trump for questioning Vice President Kamala Harris' identity as a Black woman. Horsford labeled Trump's remarks as 'racist,' 'insulting,' and 'offensive.'

Horsford highlighted Harris' strong connections to the Black community, emphasizing that she is a lifetime member of the Congressional Black Caucus, a graduate of Howard University, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. He pointed out that Harris actively participated in the Caucus during her time in the United States Senate.

During a conference of Black journalists in Chicago, Trump made false claims about Harris, suggesting that she only recently identified as Black. He stated that she 'happened to turn Black' a few years ago, insinuating that her racial identity was not genuine. Horsford condemned Trump's remarks, citing them as part of a pattern of disrespect towards Black individuals, including Trump's past false claims about former President Barack Obama's birthplace.

Vice President Harris, whose mother is Indian and father is Jamaican, is a trailblazer in American politics. She made history by becoming the first woman, the first Black person, and the first South Asian person to be elected as vice president of the United States.
