Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) announced on May 29, 2026, that she will not seek re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2026.
In a statement, Wilson said, “Today, I announced that I will not seek re-election to Congress, but I am not retiring. My life’s work is entering a new chapter. I will take the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project across America, bringing mentorship, hope, and opportunity to young people in communities throughout our nation.”
In 2010, Wilson won her first term in the U.S. House in Florida’s 17th Congressional District after then-incumbent Rep. Kendrick Meek (D) announced he was running for the U.S. Senate instead of re-election in the U.S. House. Wilson ran without major party opposition.
