Democratic Rep. Sean Casten has taken a significant step to trigger a vote to release the House Ethics Committee's report into allegations against Matt Gaetz. Casten emphasized the importance of making the Gaetz report available to the American people, despite Gaetz's recent decision to withdraw from consideration as attorney general.
The House is set to vote on the release of the report after the Thanksgiving break. Gaetz's withdrawal does not affect the procedural actions initiated by Democrats to prompt this vote.
While some Republicans, such as Derrick Van Orden, have expressed support for releasing the report, Speaker Mike Johnson is expected to rally against it. Johnson has made it clear that he opposes the report's release.
In order for the report to be released, the House would need full attendance. Johnson can only afford to lose three GOP votes for the legislation to pass.
