Rep. Andy Ogles Introduces 'Let Trump Speak Act' To Protect Free Speech

Republican presidential candidate Trump campaigns in New Hampshire

Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee is set to introduce the 'Let Trump Speak Act' on Thursday, aiming to prohibit judges from issuing gag orders to defendants, including former President Donald Trump, in criminal or civil proceedings. Ogles, a staunch Trump ally, expressed concerns about what he perceives as politically-motivated actions by the Department of Justice and Democrat activist judges targeting President Trump.

Ogles emphasized the importance of Americans' right to free speech, as enshrined in the First Amendment, stating that attempts to silence Trump are driven by a political agenda. The proposed bill would enable individuals to file civil lawsuits in U.S. district courts to seek injunctive relief in case of violations.

Bill aims to prohibit judges from silencing defendants like Trump in legal proceedings.

With ten Republicans in the GOP-led House sponsoring the bill, Rep. Bob Good of Virginia, a co-sponsor, condemned the perceived weaponization of justice and harassment of President Trump, calling for an end to such practices. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, another co-sponsor, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the efforts to silence Trump and emphasizing the need to protect the fundamental American value of free speech from political interference.
