Matthew Renshaw posted a deserved century before Wes Agar inflicted early pain with the ball on day two of Australia A's unofficial Test against their New Zealand counterparts in Lincoln.
Australia A resumed at 1-155 on Sunday with Renshaw unbeaten on 92.
Renshaw boosted his hopes of an Ashes call-up by making 112 off 169 balls before being trapped lbw by paceman Scott Kuggeleijn.
Australia A declared at 6-370, with Tim Ward (75), Nathan McSweeney (50), and Campbell Kellaway (35no) contributing handy scores.
Kuggeleijn was the best of New Zealand's bowlers with 3-94.
In reply, the Kiwis slumped to 3-47 after Agar snared the scalps of openers Sean Solia (5) and Henry Cooper (3) before Spencer Johnson sent Dean Foxcroft packing for 20.
The home side recovered to make it to 3-109 at stumps on day two, still trailing Australia A by 261 runs.
Cole McConchie (36no) and Tom Bruce (31no) will resume on Monday.
Agar has figures of 2-31, with Johnson returning 1-34.
Mitchell Swepson, who is attempting to earn a ticket to the Ashes as the second spin option behind Nathan Lyon, returned figures of 0-25 from his seven overs.
Renshaw's century has boosted his hopes of earning a Test recall in time for the Test Championship against India in June and the Ashes series in England that follows.
