A regional burns centre which had to close a ward due to a shortage of specialised staff will move to a different location close by. The facility at Morriston Hospital shut its inpatient ward between October and February.
It has been impacted by a reduction in anaesthetic consultant numbers due to retirement and long-term sickness, according to a Swansea Bay University Health Board risk report. The report also cited an inability to recruit "substantive burns anaesthetic posts".
The health board said it was able to assess and treat urgent burns cases while the inpatient ward was closed. These cases could then be transferred to other UK specialist burns centres. It added that the service's other work continued as normal.
