Renfrewshire set to be hit by Storm Dudley

Weather warnings have been issued as Renfrewshire and central Scotland face being whipped by Storm Dudley.

Winds could be set to reach 90 miles per hour in coastal and hilly areas forecasters say, with speeds of up to 60 to 70mph in places inland.

Both amber and yellow weather warnings are in force tomorrow, with the first gusts expected from 6am.

Yellow weather warnings for wind are in place from 6am tomorrow until 6am on Thursday and cover much of Scotland, England and Northern Ireland.

The windspeed during these times may also present risks to property, travel, communications and power lines and to life.

Forecasters at the Met Office have warned Storm Dudley will "bring a spell of very strong winds and a risk of disruption later Wednesday and into the small hours of Thursday."

An amber weather warning for wind comes into effect at 4pm tomorrow (Wednesday) for central and southern Scotland and nothern England until 11.59pm.

Forecasters warn that injuries and danger to life are likely from "large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties".

Road, rail, air and ferry services are expected to be thrown into chaos and travel disruption is also likely.

Fallen trees are expected to cause damage to buildings, tiles may be blown from roofs and forecasters warn of possible disruption to power and communications networks.

Hot on the heels of troublesome Dudley, Storm Eunice is expected to make an appearance on Friday, bringing with it gusts up to 60mph or 70 mph, with winds even expected to reach 80mph inland.

A yellow weather warning is in place between midnight and 9pm on Friday, with a period of strong winds expected to bring "significant disruption".

Coastal winds are likely to be strongest, with snow and blizzard conditions possible in parts of Scotland.

Renfrewshire may escape the worst, however, with Eunice currently forecast to hit mainly in parts of Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, Strathclyde East and southern Scotland.

Paisley's own weather guru, STV legend Sean Batty, has also warned that conditions are set to deteriorate as the nation faces "a wild week ahead".

He said on Twitter: "Storm Dudley is our main concern this week in Scotland. Exact track still being pinned down, but looks like central and southern Scotland will get the most damaging gusts Wednesday night/Thursday morning.

"After Storm Dudley comes Eunice. The worst of Eunice's winds will be across England, but she could potentially bring blizzards to southern Scotland on Friday. Track will continue to be firmed up in coming days, so another one for us to watch this week."
