Renfrewshire roadworks alert as £80,000 A737 project set to cause disruption

A month-long Renfrewshire roadworks project kicks off on Monday.

The £80,000 scheme is planned for two kilometres south of Howwood on the A737.

Drivers have been warned that traffic management will be in place for the duration of the works which will run until Wednesday, November 30 and that delays are likely.

Amey – on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the network management contract for the south-west trunk road unit – is carrying out repairs to the spandrel wall of the culvert carrying the A737 over Risk Burn and to replace the vehicle restraint system (VRS).

A southbound lane closure and the use of temporary traffic signals that will be in effect on a 24/7 basis have been planned.

Two overnight closures will be implemented to allow for the safe installation and removal of traffic management at this location.

These will take place between the hours of 8pm and 6am Monday and again on November 30. A signed diversion route will be in operation.

Traffic will be diverted in a northerly direction and will turn right onto the B707. From here, traffic will turn left on to the A736 (Lochlibo Road), left on to the A726 (Hurlet Road), left on to the A761 (Gordon Street), and finally will turn right on to Linwood Road. Traffic will then be able to rejoin the A737 and the diversion will end.

There will be local access only for Belltrees Road.

A spokesperson for Amey said: “Delays are anticipated while these essential works are underway, especially during peak morning and afternoon times. We thank road users in advance for their patience and cooperation.

“Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.”

Amey advises that works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

The scheme will benefit around 22,081 vehicles using this route each day by improving the condition and safety of the structure and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
