Renfrew woman up in court for phone call threatening to kill husband if he didn't come home

A Renfrew woman has appeared in court for threatening to kill her husband if he didn't return home in five minutes after they had an argument.

As reported by the Paisley Daily Express, Linda Kierstzen, 50, made a threatening phone call to long-term husband Wayne Kierstzen on September 10. Kierstzen, of Porterfield Road, had an argument with Wayne, causing him to walk out of his home.

But before he left, she threw items around the living room, smashing an object off of the living room door.

Procurator fiscal depute Tracy Wright told Paisley Sheriff Court: "At around 1.30pm on Saturday, September 10, both the accused and the complainer Wayne Kierstzen were within his home address. The accused appeared to be upset at her husband and shouted at him to stay in another room. He advised her that he was going to contact the mental health team due to her erratic behaviour.

"Before Wayne left the property, the accused began to throw items around the property, with an item striking the living room door. The accused phoned her husband, telling him to come home immediately or she 'would kill him.'

"Police were contacted at this point. Wayne Kierstzen received a voicemail notification on his phone from the accused, who sounded angry. She stated 'You have five minutes to get back home with my bank card or I'm coming to my mums and I will kill you.'

"Police heard this voicemail and they were informed by NHS24 staff that they had been contacted. She was arrested, cautioned and charged and replied, 'I didn't mean to say that, things were just building up."

Defence agent Rhona Lynch told the court Kierstzen and Wayne have been married for 21 years and that he is "extremely supportive" of her.

Ms Lynch added: "At the time of the incident, he had just had surgery for a serious condition and was suffering trauma as a result. She was feeling the pressure and there was a decline in her mental health. An argument developed and she acted in this way. She is very remorseful and loves her husband."

Sheriff Laura Mundell deferred sentence for Kierstzen to be of good behaviour for six months. She will return to court in March next year for sentencing.
