Renfrew seal promotion to First Division as Neilston pick up precious point in bid to beat the drop

Renfrew sealed promotion to the WoSFL First Division after picking up a point on the road against Kilsyth Rangers.

Jimmy Quigley’s in-form side knew a win would guarantee them a spot in the top three as they continue to chase the league title.

The New Western Park side looked on course to pick up their 19th domestic win of the season when Dominic Innes put them in front in the first half, putting the finishing touch on a flowing move down the right.

Kilsyth threatened to spoil the party when a deflected cross looped over Frew’s stranded keeper to level things up.

But thanks to Maryhill’s surprising 3-0 victory against Craigmark Burntonians, Renfrew still sealed promotion on Saturday back to the second tier of the WoSFL.

Now Quigley’s side will focus on adding the league title to the Demolition Cup success they sealed earlier this season to make it a memorable double.

Renfrew take on Glasgow United tomorrow night (Wednesday) knowing a win would more than likely seal the title.

In the WoSFL First Division Neilston picked up a potentially crucial point against high-flying St Cadoc’s.

The Farmer’s Boys are battling to stay in the division and bagged a draw against promotion-hunting St Cadoc’s at the Brig O’Lea Stadium.

Olly Smith netted a clinical brace, while Darren Jones scored the other in an eventful 3-3 draw on Friday night.

The point keeps Neilston out of the relegation zone on goal difference alone, with the East Renfrewshire team tied on 29 points with Whitletts Victoria.

Kevin Muirhead’s men travel to Dam Park this Wednesday night for a clash which could go a huge way to determining which league Neilston are playing in next season.

In the WoSFL Premier Division Arthurlie’s future continues to hang in the balance as they aim to stay in the top flight.

The Barrhead side welcomed Hurlford United to Dunterlie Park knowing a win would have ensured their survival.

But the Ayrshire side raced into a 2-0 lead at the break, giving Colin Reilly’s side a mountain to climb in the second half.

Arthurlie battled back and halved the deficit when Lee Roulston stabbed home.

But Hurlford went on to restore their two-goal advantage to seal a 3-1 win.

Arthurlie remain four points clear of Kilwinning Rangers, the only side who can now knock them out of the division.

Kilwinning have a game in hand, with Arthurlie’s final game of the season this Saturday at home against Glenafton Athletic. A win in that would secure survival.
