A man who headbutted his wife after he “lost control” during an argument has claimed it was an “accidental collision” due to being drunk.
Graham Collie, who was convicted of domestic assault in 2017, headbutted his wife of ten years in November last year.
Collie,55, previously admitted at Paisley Sheriff Court that he headbutted his wife on November 20 last year in their property in Renfrew.
The court previously heard the couple had been married for ten years, and at the time of the assault had been living together.
Depute fiscal Caitlin O'Hare said: “Around 11.30am on Saturday, November 20, the witness Ms Collie and the accused had an argument during which he lost self control and began headbutting his wife to the bridge of her nose.
“Ms Collie contacted police who attended at the Renfrew property.
“Police noted a fresh injury to Ms Collie’s nose and swelling to her left eye.
“Officers spoke with the complainer and she advised she did not wish for an ambulance to attend.
“Police left and returned on Monday, November 22, and noted the complainer had extensive bruising and swelling on her left eye.
“On the same date, around 10.30am, the accused attended at Saltcoats police office and he was arrested.
“He was interviewed and later cautioned and charged.
“The accused was then released on an undertaking to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court.”

Defence agent Kevin Brady told the court Collie “accepts responsibility” for the assault.
Mr Brady said: “This was an accidental collision and Mr Collie accepts he was heavily intoxicated at the time.
“He shows disgust at what he one to his partner of 13 years.
“He has taken steps to address his alcohol intake.”
On sentencing, Sheriff Lindsay Kooner said: “You have an analogous conviction of a domestic nature from 2017.
“You’ve continued to enjoy the support of your wife and she has spoken with the social worker and she wishes you to receive the help you need with your alcohol consumption.”
Sheriff Kooner made Collie subject to supervision of the social work department for 12 months and ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
A non-harassment order was not made in this case and a review of the order was fixed for September 9.
