Renfrew boss Jimmy Quigley insisted he wouldn’t be too hard on his misfiring forwards after the league leaders dropped precious points in Clydebank.
The New Western Park club were hoping to keep the pressure up on the chasing pack by picking up another win in their tilt to claim the WoSFL Division Two title.
Quigley believes the visitors could have been four ahead within the opening 20 minutes without any complaints after spurning a host of gilt-edged chances.
The home side took the lead against the run of play towards the end of the first half with a screamer from Donnie McCallum, with Ciaran Diver eventually finding the net with a tricky looping header in the second half.
While Renfrew couldn’t find a winner, Quigley was pleased with overall performance and is confident the goals will start to flow again if the players can keep creating in the final third.
He told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “I honestly think that’s the best we’ve played all season.
“We could have been 4-0 up after 20 minutes and no one could have complained. They then scored with their first shot from 25 yards.
“We were all over them again in the second half but sometimes you just have games like that. Diver scored probably one of the hardest chances we created all game and missed others that were much easier.
“But I’m not going to be too hard on the boys because the front three especially have been terrific for us this season and have got us to the point we’re at.
“On most days we would have won that game comfortably. But sometimes you have to accept a point a move on.”
The draw moved Renfrew six points clear at the top of the table from nearest challengers Glasgow Perthshire, although Maybole and Craigmark Burntonians are now within striking distance with a number of games in hand.
Quigley knows the league trophy’s final destination is still firmly in their control – with this Saturday’s trip to Glasgow United followed by a clash with Perthshire and two back-to-back meetings with Craigmark.
Quigley said: “We’re coming into some season-defining matches and as long as we keep our performances levels as high as they have been we will be okay.
“Unfortunately, recently, teams haven’t been having to work hard enough to score against us, while we’ve been making hard work of scoring ourselves.
“We’ve stepped up in big games for a long time now though and I’m confident we can do the same again in the next few weeks.”
