Jimmy Quigley says his Renfrew side were composed and professional in their emphatic win over Finnart in the Strathclyde Demolition Cup as his team scored goals at the “right time”.
The New Western Park troops ran out five-goal winners on Saturday to reach the semi-finals as they continued their impressive start to the season.
Renfrew scored two first-half goals through Ciran Diver and David McKenna as they dominated the play.
The Springburn side were put to the sword after the break with three further goals through Diver, McKenna and David McCallum clinching a last-four date with St Cadoc's.
‘Frew boss Quigley was pleased with his team’s intensity throughout the game as well as the overall performance.
He said: “I thought the performance overall was excellent as the boys were composed and professional throughout the game. They stuck to the game plan and executed it perfectly.
“The way we dictated the ball was brilliant and I felt that we did it really well from the start as that allowed us to dictate the tempo of the game.
“We scored goals at the right time in the match as we got two before half time in the match and then a quick fire double just after half time before getting the fifth later on, something which was great to see.”
Quigley rotated his side as the Renfrew manager looked to give players some much-needed minutes while others had a rest – something that he has done in the cup in previous games.
However, the players that came in impressed the Renfrew gaffer with Quigley pointing out that it looked like the players who had come in hadn’t been out for a few months.
The boss felt that his side were seamless in transition as Finnart were ultimately blown away after the interval.
He went on to say: "I knew that the players coming in had the performances when I rotated round the squad for this game.
“Some players needed a rest like Jamie Benton and giving Liam McMenamey some minutes as he hadn’t played for a long time.
“The players that came in were absolutely fantastic. I don’t like singling out players for praise as it is a team game but the four boys who came in were fantastic.
“The fitness in training has always been good and they have trained well so for them to slip into the team is brilliant.
“I don’t like using it but you’d think that it was the first-team players that were playing given that performance.
“Overall, though, it was pleasing and now we take one game at a time as we turn to league action for the next two games.”
It’s back to West of Scotland League Second Division business for Renfrew who travel to Glasgow Perthshire this weekend before playing under the lights on Wednesday, November 9 at New Western Park when they take on Yoker Athletic in what is sure to be a cracking contest.
