Renault remains silent on car deals with RTE stars amid controversy

Renault are continuing to remain silent on how many cars they forked out to RTE stars in return for publicity.

The car company is at the centre of controversy over its commercial agreements with some of the broadcaster’s highest paid talent.

When asked by The Star how many cars they lent RTE hosts in exchange for publicity, a spokesman for Renault declined to reveal their lucrative deals.

A spokesman for Renault said the company “does not comment on commercial agreements”.

It is being reported less than ten RTE stars have promoted different car brands on their social media including Renault, Toyota and Volvo.

It comes in the wake of RTE host Lottie Ryan coming under fire for filming an ad for Toyota on RTE’s premises.

The daughter of the late Gerry Ryan was spoken to by RTÉ bosses after she filmed a promotional video with a car company without permission.

An RTÉ spokesperson said: "Permission was not given by RTÉ to Lottie Ryan for the filming or for the post in question. RTÉ has comprehensive social media guidelines that all employees – staff and contractors – are contractually obliged to adhere to.

"This matter has been addressed with her by management. The post has been taken down."

On Tuesday morning, Lottie then announced she has parted ways with talent agency Noel Kelly management in recent weeks.

In an Instagram post, Ms Ryan confirmed she had parted ways with Mr Kelly's agency.

“My relationship with NK management ended a number of weeks ago when we respectfully parted ways. I will not be making any further comment."

Mr Kelly negotiated Ryan Tubridy's most recent contract, which is at the centre of the RTÉ pay scandal.
