May 1994 - Newcastle 2-0 Arsenal

Newcastle were all but guaranteed a place in the UEFA Cup when they faced Arsenal on the final day of the 1993/94 season. The Gunners trailed Newcastle by three points, and also had a significantly inferior goal difference.

A 12 goal swing was required for Arsenal to jump above Newcastle and into third-place, and the Magpies dashed those faint dreams with a clinical performance.

Peter Beardsley tiptoed his way through a sea of Arsenal bodies in majestic fashion, only to see his chipped effort thwarted by Allan Miller. But Andy Cole was in the perfect position on the follow up to hook his overhead kick beyond the Arsenal goalkeeper at the start of the second half.

John Beresford was upended inside the penalty area via a clumsy challenge from Lee Dixon, which gave the referee no other option but to point to the spot. Beardsley remained as cool as ever to send Miller the wrong way and secure all three points for the Magpies.

September 1994 - Arsenal 2-3 Newcastle

Newcastle started the 1994/95 season in spectacular fashion - winning all five of their opening games before travelling to Highbury to face Arsenal.

And that winning run continued as the Magpies came out on top at the end of an enthralling five-goal thriller. Martin Keown conceded an own goal inside seven minutes after Beardsley's strike from range took a telling deflection to beat David Seaman.

Arsenal quickly restored parity just two minutes later through Tony Adams. A free-kick deflected fortuitously into his path, and after his initial strike was saved, Adams headed the follow-up beyond the late Pavel Srnicek.

Dixon was deemed to have pushed Philippe Albert at the back post and Newcastle were handed a golden chance to retake the lead on the cusp of half-time.

Beardsley was in no mood to be passing up the opportunity and calmly rolled the ball into the bottom corner to fire the visitors back into the lead. Beardsley then played a key role in Newcastle's third with another mazy run into the box.

His shot deflected into the path of Ruel Fox, who was at full stretch to stab the ball into the net at the back post. Ian Wright reduced the arrears in the dying stages with a thumping finish, which proved too little too late.

December 2001 - Arsenal 1-3 Newcastle

Newcastle headed to Highbury a week before Christmas with the prospect of reaching the summit of the Premier League. The Magpies needed to come from behind against Arsenal after a moment of magic from Thierry Henry sparked the first goal of the game.

Henry juggled the ball beautifully on the right and confidently hooked the ball acrobatically across the face of goal. Although his delivery evaded the head of Robert Pires, Ashley Cole delivered the loose ball first time for Pires to convert from close range.

Arsenal were reduced to ten-men just before the interval after Ray Parlour was handed a second booking for a challenge on Alan Shearer, who famously urged Graham Poll to keep his cards in his pocket.

Newcastle levelled the score on the hour-mark with a near post header from Andy O'Brien, but were also sent down to ten-men after Craig Bellamy was shown a straight red card.

The Magpies took the lead from Alan Shearer's penalty after Robert was hacked down Lauren. Newcastle then caught Arsenal on the counter-attack and Robert finished with aplomb to clinch all three points for Newcastle.

February 2011 - Newcastle 4-4 Arsenal

Newcastle's iconic 4-4 draw against Arsenal at St James' Park will always remain one of the most sensational comebacks in Premier League history.

Arsenal stormed into a 4-0 lead within the opening 26 minutes, with Robin van Persie bagging a brace, and Theo Walcott and Johan Djourou also getting on the score sheet.

Joey Barton reduced the deficit from the spot in the 68th minute, before Leon Best added a second 15 minutes from time.

Barton was successful from the spot once again in the 83rd minute and the late Cheick Tiote unleashed an incredible volley into the bottom corner to earn a point for Newcastle.

May 2022 - Newcastle 2-0 Arsenal

Newcastle dealt Arsenal's top four hopes a damning blow as they condemned them to a 2-0 defeat at St James' Park during the closing stages of last season.

Arsenal needed a win to move above Tottenham Hotspur but fell behind when Ben White turned the ball into his own net at the start of the second half.

Bruno Guimaraes made sure of the victory when he drove the ball into the net to crown a performance that saw Newcastle dominate proceedings.

The Gunners would ultimately miss out on UEFA Champions League qualification, with their fierce rivals Tottenham pipping them to the post.
