Rematch Season 2: What’s Changed, What Works, and What Doesn’t

Our favourite football game is back in action, and this time with some serious upgrades. Rematch Season 2 is finally here, and Sloclap has ensured it exceeds expectations. Now, it’s been a minute, and an update is long overdue. The game was released in April of this year, and the company wanted to ensure a smooth rollout for this one.

Rematch had some critical issues in the first season that rubbed some players the wrong way. Long match times, the battlepass grind, or just some glitches that ruined the game’s experience. But we’re getting fixes for all that, and more. Let’s break down exactly what Rematch Season 2 has to offer and what changes you can expect while playing.

Major Changes In Season 2

We’re looking for all the major changes in Rematch Season 2, and trust me when I tell you, there are a lot. The significant ones are:

  • Battle Pass XP requirement reduced
  • New dribbling form, Dribble Push Ball
  • More responsive and smoother movements
  • Ranked and Quickmatch durations reduced
  • New tool for Freeplay, Cannon Ball
  • New cosmetics
  • Bug Fixes

This is the gist of the update. As you can see, Slocap really tried to cover all its bases. Now let’s take a deep dive to see what each change means.

Battle Pass XP Requirement Reduced

This is by far the biggest complaint players had for season 1: the grind was just too much without enough reward. The Battlepass initially needed 1,750 XP for completion, and players complained that it was just too hard. While every battle pass requires you to play and progress, it shouldn’t need a few hours daily just to get rewards.

So in Season 2, they’ve reduced the XP requirement from 1,750 to 800 XP. That’s more than half the XP you previously required. And don’t worry, they haven’t removed any of the tiers. Each tier has been readjusted accordingly to fit the new requirement.

This is a major plus for the entire Rematch community. The battle pass won’t seem like a chore anymore and can easily be completed by playing a few matches every day. Slocap is also planning to introduce weekly and daily missions to help hasten the process, but that’s still a bit down the line. For now, enjoy getting those tiers almost twice as fast.

New Dribbling Form: Dribble Push Ball

We won’t just be seeing updated mechanics; we’ll also see new features like the Dribble Push Ball. Now, when players perform a Push Ball while dribbling, it will result in a new mechanic called the Dribble Push Ball. This version pushes the ball further away from the player and allows for faster turns and fluid transitions in motion.

This is important in scenarios where the opposing player is stuck to you, and you need space to move. Pushing the ball further unlocks a bit of free space where you can manoeuvre away from the opposing player and catch up with the ball. Of course, this has its downsides, like if you’re pieced in from all sides. But it’ll definitely be fun to see this new mechanic in action on the field.

Movement Improvements

Movement is the cornerstone of any football game, especially one like Rematch, where you’re only in control of one player on the team. In Season 2, movement will now be much more responsive and smoother. This means tricks and turns at the push of a button, faster redirections, and better reflexes to dives and tackles.

I don’t need to explain why this is a good thing for the game, but it will have a downside. This will require faster actions per minute, differentiating the good players and the great. Get ready for a season of high-action and fast-paced gameplay.

Ranked And Quickmatch Duration Reductions

This has been a point of controversy amongst the community ever since it was announced. 5v5s and 4v4s in both Ranked and Quickmatch are going down to 5 minutes, while 3v3s will now be 4 minutes per match.

A lot of players have complained that this will make games more defensive since the comeback potential is drastically reduced. The chances of scoring multiple times in 5 minutes are lower, and hence, people will prefer playing defence once they get a goal in. However, this is yet to be seen once players share their experience playing with this format.

New Tool: Cannon Ball & New Cosmetics

A new tool is available in Freeplay, called Cannon Ball. The cannonball is exactly what it sounds like: a machine which shoots balls like cannons for target practice. You can obviously configure it to your liking and preference to improve the experience.

We’ll also have some new cosmetics in the game, such as VR Clouds, AR Flower Winter, and Iceberg Night. There are new goals and victory celebrations, and player cards can now be displayed during goal celebrations.
