People in Arnold are ‘relieved’ after Gedling Borough Council has scrapped plans to sell land that is popular with dog walkers. The land off Killisick Lane, Arnold, was going to be sold and allocated for new homes, however the local authority have made a u-turn.
After a consultation, a decision was made not to take any consideration of sale of the land any further and review the feedback provided. The land is predominantly used by dog walkers and is owned by the Labour-run authority.
Residents in Arnold say they ‘would be lost’ without the land and are ‘pleased the plans were cancelled'. Ian Johnson, told Nottinghamshire Live he was relieved about the plans.The 56-year-old HGV driver said: “It’s really good that they’ve scrapped the plans.

“Everybody walks their dogs up here and there’s too many housing estates going up here anyway. This is the only place people can come out to and relax with their dogs.”
Another local, Paul Viner, who is 64 and retired, says that people would be lost without this place as many people use it. Mr Viner said: “We’re all absolutely pleased the plans were cancelled, we’d be lost without this place
“A lot of people use it. It would be accessible countryside that they’re taking away so I’m glad they didn’t. We’re all very relieved.”
Adrian Grant, from Arnold, has visited the land everyday, all his life, he told Nottinghamshire Live that the decision to scrap the plans is for the best. The 60-year-old said: “I don’t think the council had the right to sell this land because I feel like it’s more the people’s.
“There are so many people that use this walking spot, so I think it’s best that the plans have been scrapped. I’ve been coming here every day for the last 55 years, all my life.
“It’s a really good idea to not build houses here. I know people need houses, but I think there are other places where they could be built.”
Charlotte Mace, 36, a hairdresser, shares relief of the plans as she walks her dogs there. She said: “I didn’t really know about the council’s plans until my partner told me this morning that it had all been cancelled.
“I’m obviously really happy about it because I take my dog out on walks here a lot.”
