Relegation picture latest as Leeds United lose at Arsenal and late drama elsewhere

Things couldn't have gone much worse for Leeds United in terms of their fight to stay in the Premier League this afternoon as they were beaten 4-1 by league leaders Arsenal.

Goals from Gabriel Jesus, Ben White and Granit Xhaka condemned the Whites to their defeat, despite a late glimmer of hope from a deflected Rasmus Kristensen effort finding its way past Aaron Ramsdale.

The result means that Javi Gracia's side fall two places in the table down to 16th after three of their relegation rivals found all three points in their own afternoon fixtures.

Three weeks after their 1-0 upset win over Liverpool, Gary O'Neil's Bournemouth found two second-half goals from Marcus Tavernier and Dominic Solanke to complete a comeback against high-flying Fulham despite an early goal from Andreas Pereira.

That win pushed them up to 15th and a point above the Whites but it was further heartbreak late in the second half for Leeds as Crystal Palace and Leicester looked as though they'd play out a 1-1 draw which would've suited the Whites.

But a 94th-minute winner from Jean-Phillippe Mateta for the Eagles in Roy Hodgson's first game back in charge meant they extended their lead in 12th over Leeds to four points. The Foxes, though, did slip down into the bottom three and are now winless in their last seven.

Fellow relegation rivals Nottingham Forest and Wolves played out a 1-1 draw thanks to goals from Brennan Johnson and Daniel Podence. That result means they stay 13th and 14th but simultaneously move two and one point ahead of Leeds.

Fortunately for the Whites, they cannot finish the weekend bottom-of-the-table but they could end up in the bottom three if West Ham and Everton find wins over Southampton and Tottenham respectively tomorrow afternoon.
