Reiss Nelson ready to offer Arsenal positive contract news that could save Edu millions

Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson is set to agree a new contract to stay at the Emirates Stadium, as per The Athletic.

It is claimed that the expected four-year extension will recognise the Hale End academy graduate as an important member of Mikel Arteta's squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. Nelson’s current deal expires at the end of the current campaign, with plenty of interest from clubs within the Premier League and abroad.

But news of an extension is great news for Arteta, who has made it no secret of his admiration for the player. “I always saw the potential,” the Spaniard said back in March.

“The talent and the desire for him to do it, but he’s at a different level right now. I think emotionally, the experiences that he had helped him.

“Football-wise, it was my decision in the last two games not to play him because we had other options. But he was knocking on the door, he’s been training really good and it’s a good lesson for me and for the coaches that we need him and that he can be really important for the team.”

Despite limited minutes, Nelson has enjoyed an impressive season, netting three goals and providing a further two assists in the Premier League. Arsenal had been linked with a move for a winger in recent times, with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen's Moussa Diaby mooted as a potential target for Sporting Director Edu.

But a new deal for Nelson could save the Gunners millions in the transfer market, allowing them to focus on upgrading other areas of the squad. Speaking about his future at the Emirates Stadium back in November 2022, the 23-year-old said: "I've never doubted myself at this football club.

"Arsenal is a team that I've been at since I was eight years old and I have a very, very strong bond and love for the club.

"Of course, there's been times where I've been a bit down when I haven't played or been on the bench, but my plan has never been for me to leave the club or say that I have no future here and I will do everything possible to get there."
