Reindeer racing draws crowds in Finland’s frozen north near the Russian border

Reindeer racing drew crowds to the northern Finnish town of Salla, near the Russian border, as spectators gathered to watch the traditional winter competition.

Reindeer pulled skiers across a snowy track, with the fastest teams racing a one-kilometre course.

Visitors from several European countries attended the event, which dates back to the 1950s. Today the races are organised competitions involving trained male reindeer.

The three-day event concluded with reindeer named Pompom winning the final race.
