Regina Hall's sexual jokes at the Oscars 2022 divides viewers due to 'double standards'

Regina Hall's kicked off hosting duties at the Oscars alongside Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes and immediately divided fans with her choice of jokes.

The American actress, 51, immediately let it known she was single as she joked about a number of the men in the audience.

In a quip about Covid later in the evening, Regina called out several stars, including Bradley Cooper and Jason Momoa, to join her on stage.

She joked that their PCR tests had got "lost" and instead of re-swabbing the hunky actors, the star jokingly suggested she would swab the back of their throats using her tongue.

She also got hands on as she "eyed up" the men while they stood on stage.

One adoring viewer loved her comments and said on Twitter : "Regina Hall is hilarious. She went for the Will Smith open relationship joke and nailed it…with Jada sitting right there."

Another agreed and wrote: "So far the best thing about the Oscars has been Regina Hall’s hilarious manhandling. More of that please!"

A third said: "Regina Hall was hilarious. The actors got the joke and played along."

But while some fans found her skit hilarious, others were far from impressed and said there would be a huge outcry if the roles were reversed.

One viewer said: "If any man ever even THOUGHT about rubbing down a couple of actresses the way that Regina Hall just did those two actors…c’mon now! You can’t have it both ways. Somehow I’m not surprised by the double standard #Oscars2022"

Another agreed, penning: "Imagine a man doing what Regina Hall just did. Who allowed this? #oscars #DoubleStandards"

"So what Regina’s ‘joke’ with guys was fine ??? Let’s talk about double standards," fumed a third.

And a fourth wrote: "Imagine if a male host talked about stripping women and sticking his tongue down their throats like Regina Hall did during that awful segment and then patted down two female presenters on stage. Double standards are fun! #Oscars"

Piers Morgan even got in on the debate to slam the double standards on show. He tweeted: "Interesting to see a female celebrity make lewd sexual jokes about male stars and physically grope them on stage.

"Of course, if a man did that, he’d be immediately cancelled. The double standard is laughable."

It had followed Amy Schumer's opener as she jibed: "This year the Academy hired three women to host, because it’s cheaper than one man."

Amy's skits throughout the show have been received well on the whole with Piers appeared to enjoy her words slightly more.

The presenter, 56, tweeted: "Enjoying Ms Schumer’s waspish tongue so far.. #oscars," alongside two crying with laughter emoji faces.
