The Washington Commanders opted to bench Taylor Heinicke in favor of Carson Wentz against the Cleveland Browns. It ended in a three-interception performance from Wentz and a Cleveland win as the Commanders were officially eliminated from playoff contention (much to Ron Rivera’s surprise). Cleveland linebacker Reggie Ragland, however, may have ruffled some feathers in D.C. with his postgame comments.
After the game, Ragland came out and stated that he knew some players in Washington’s locker room that would have preferred for Rivera to stick with Heinicke over Wentz. Ragland was college teammates with both Washington defensive tackles Jon Allen and Browns’ free agent target Daron Payne, and wide receiver Cam Sims. He also spent time in Kansas City with cornerback Kendall Fuller.
Regardless, Ragland knew the Browns could take advantage of Wentz’s long release, and take advantage they did.
