Create a cheerful and spectacular Christmas tree this holiday season by taking inspiration from one of my favorite color combinations for the festivities – red and white or silver.
Every year actress Reese Witherspoon changes her Christmas tree ideas, so I've gone back through her Instagram archives to find my favorites.
Witherspoon's statement silver tree, decorated with red and white ornaments and pretty bows, stands head and shoulders above the rest. It is simple, and impactful and favors a Christmas color scheme that will endure beyond 2024.

Highly-rated
A silver Christmas tree might be a break away from tradition, but when styled right with only 2-3 other colors, it is the perfect option for minimalist decor enthusiasts.
Editor's choice
Red and white will always be a fantastic option for decorating during Christmas. This no-fail color combination works wonderfully in Scandinavian-inspired spaces.
Luxe velvet
Bows are back in a big way for 2024. Forgo a simple star, and top your Christmas tree with an oversized bow. Or go one step further, and use bows as the main decoration throughout.
Timeless designs
Classic, sophisticated and enduringly popular, metallic ornaments are everlasting so I always suggest to invest in the best ones you can afford. They are great fillers and will work with just about any other trend.
Playful addition
A candy cane ornament will never go out of style. There is something oh so nostalgic about seeing them on the tree – just be sure not to eat these ones.
On-trend color
Two Christmas trends I've noticed this year is velvet and burgundy. This well-made set of 8 ornaments combines both of these trends beautifully. I predict they'll be here to stay beyond 2024...
Decorating with red can be hard to get right, but if you are going to use red at home, Christmas is the best time to do so. In moderation, red is a highly sophisticated color and exudes warmth, comfort, and frivolity – perfect for yuletide gatherings.
'Red makes people sit up and take notice and is a festive color that says you are self-reliant, optimistic, and know what you want,' says Emma Deterding, founder of Kelling Designs and KDLoves. 'It is the most popular Christmas color for a good reason.'
White is another fantastic non-color to decorate with over Christmas. White has long been associated with peace and innocence in many cultures and traditions. These days, a vision of a pure white snowy landscape has become the standard that most people dream of on Christmas morning.
Silver, on the other hand, is a precious metal. It was often given as a gift to symbolize wealth and prosperity. So while a silver Christmas tree might not be a conventional decor option, the color is an important reminder of tradition.
If you truly want to replicate Witherspoon's look, it is also worth thinking about your Christmas tree topper. The bow is set to be the trend for trees this year.
Bow tree toppers started to gather a celebrity fanbase in 2021, and after disappearing for a few years, they've made their way back into the zeitgeist for 2024.
Adorning the trees of the super-rich and famous. This year the bow has already become a desired Christmas tree trend with bow tree toppers at retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Amazon already selling out way ahead of their star or angel rivals.
