Reds prospect Christian Encarnacion-Strand is poised to make his major league debut after being recalled from Triple A. He’s slotted into Cincinnati’s lineup as the No. 7 batter and designated hitter in Monday’s game against the Giants.
But before he even walks on an MLB field for the first time in his career, he’s already made major league history by having the longest name on record in the history of the game.
His full name is 27 characters long, which is five more than Simeon Woods Richardson, who sits at second place on the list, according to Sarah Langs and Andrew Simon of MLB.com. There are seven MLB players in history tied for third with 20 characters in their names.
In case you’re wondering, Encarnacion-Strand decided to go with “Encarnacion” on the back of his jersey, just as he did in spring training earlier this year.

As Encarnacion-Strand makes his debut, the Reds placed infielder Kevin Newman on the injured list in a corresponding move.
