Works at a city centre bridge have been hit with delays. The Redcliffe Bridge - which has been shut since August 1 - is now not expected until November.
Bristol City Council had originally said the works were expected to take around 10 weeks to complete, meaning they should have been finished by mid October. The council also announced today (September 15) that the city centre bridge would close to all road users next week so the bridge’s bascule span can be lifted into the upright position.
In a statement, Bristol City Council said: "Contractors undertaking work on Redcliffe Bridge have confirmed it will close to all road users on Tuesday 20 September between eight to ten weeks, so the bridge’s bascule span can be lifted into the upright position.

"This will enable engineers to repair and upgrade the mechanical and electrical systems that allows the bridge to open for larger boats. Redcliffe Bascule Bridge will close to all road users on Tuesday 20 September and remain closed to allow contractors Griffiths to test opening the bascule span on auxiliary power ahead of carrying out the repairs.
"Motor traffic will need to continue to use the official diversion route over Bristol Bridge throughout the closure. From 20 September, cyclists and pedestrians will need to follow the diversion once more across Bristol Bridge.
"This phase of work is expected to be completed in November, when Redcliffe Bascule Bridge will reopen to all road users under lane restrictions, while surfacing work is carried out."
