Nathan McSweeney's three-figure quest continues but the South Australian's 94 has put the Redbacks in control of their One-Day Cup clash with NSW.
The No.3 entered in the first over after Jake Weatherald's second-ball duck but was in complete command at North Sydney Oval.
He cruised to within one lusty blow of a century before a thin edge behind denied him the milestone, the Redbacks kicking on to 5-330 from 50 overs.
McSweeney drove and swept Nathan Lyon (0-53 from seven overs), both conventionally and unconventionally, with great impact as he shared 110 and 96-run stands with Travis Head (55 off 62) and Alex Carey (66 off 51) respectively.
Thomas Kelly (53 not out off 34) pushed the Redbacks well past 300, a huge six over mid-on bringing up his 50 from the final ball of the innings.
McSweeney's knock followed 75 in his previous One-Day Cup innings and comes after an unbeaten 99 earlier in the season gave South Australia its first Sheffield Shield win in two years.
Head, a contender to replace Aaron Finch at the top of the order for Australia in 50-over cricket, was filthy with himself at an opportunity missed.
He passed 50 for the first time since his first Shield innings this season but was no sooner inside edging as he charged and attempted to loft Liam Hatcher (2-40 off seven) over mid-on.
Carey should have been run-out on the first ball he faced, panicking and sprinting down the pitch after being hit on the pads only to be turned around.
The shy at the stumps missed and Carey took advantage, a brutal on-drive and then a powerfully pulled six from one Hayden Kerr (2-65 from seven) over making his intent clear.
He seemed destined for a century too until Ben Dwarshuis stuck out his right hand and plucked a catch off Kerr's bowling.
Sean Abbott (1-55) bowled with early pace while Daniel Sams (0-49) found it tough to restrict the runs late in the Redbacks' innings in his return from the national fold.
The Blues are 0-2 in the 50-over format this season, while the Redbacks would move to 3-1 with a victory in Sydney.
