Red-faced BMW driver gets stuck on beach in heatwave after ignoring 'no cars' sign

An embarrassed BMW driver was forced to call for help after becoming stuck on a beach during the scorching heatwave - after ignoring a 'no cars' sign.

The group of beachgoers drove onto a sandy beach in Perranporth, Cornwall - where no traffic is allowed - on Saturday evening and ended up needing assistance from nearby holidaymakers.

In the embarrassing incident, the group failed to read the signs that prohibit all traffic from accessing the beach unless for deliveries to the nearby restaurant, or for 4x4 RNLI lifeguard vehicles and Surfers Against Sewage beach cleans, CornwallLive reported.

As 4x4 vehicles can often struggle in the soft sand at the famous surfing and holiday hotspot, it came as no surprise to anyone watching when the BMW became stuck.

The picture taken by Josh Munyard shows two lads shovelling the rear wheels of the car by hand with two of their mates just looking on by the front of the car.

The incident happened at 6.30pm on Saturday evening, which Josh described as a 'laughable occurring recurrence'.

He said: "The chap went forward and got stuck. He then tried to dig himself out and just failed for a few times.

"He managed to dig his car out eventually and got pushed out by a group of about eight people."

Josh's pic was posted on social media and punters have not been kind to the blundering unfortunates who obviously could not be bothered reading the 'Pedestrian access only past this point' sign.

Maxine Young wondered: "Why? It clearly says, no beach access for vehicles!" To which Karen McKay added: "Some people think those signs don’t apply to them."

Kate Walsh added: "They drove up in front of me about 6.30pm when I went to pack down at some speed and I knew they would be stuck. They came to an abrupt halt that's for sure. It happens all the time! Pretty much daily this time of year."

Nicol Jones added: "I love the two stood in front hands on hips." Nichole Marie Pitchford agreed: "There is nowhere more in the world I'd rather be than in the Watering Hole watching those numptys get that out."

Already this year there have been a few incidents where locals and sensible holidaymakers have been able to enjoy seeing those who seem to lose all common sense as they struggled to dig themselves out from sticky situations involving cars on Cornwall's beaches.

In late April friends had to dig a much-loved car out of the sand after it became the latest to get stuck on a beach near Newquay.

In May, a group from Surrey got their BMW stuck overnight on Swanpool beach in Falmouth because they did not want to carry their kayak and had to be rescued by a local 4x4 driver who pulled them off the sand.

A month later it was the turn of an AA rescue van to need rescuing after getting bogged down in the sand at Porth Beach near Newquay next to the car it was supposed to pull out of the sand.

This weekend, a van lowering a boat into the harbour at Appledore Quay in North Devon became submerged overnight after its owner reportedly forgot to put the hand brake on.
