Red Arrows to fly over Greater Manchester this weekend - when and where you'll be able to see them

The infamous Red Arrows will be taking flight and performing at the Southport Air Show for the first time in seven years this weekend.

The Royal Air Force aerobatic team will be heading to the skies on Saturday, July 9 and will travel all the way to Merseyside for a display there. They will also be performing on Sunday, July 10.

Aviation enthusiasts are expected to attend the famous Southport Air Show in the thousands with other features showcasing a wide variety of military aircraft such as the Spitfire, Lancaster bomber and Typhoon. It is the first time the show has been held in three years with tickets selling out at an astonishing pace.

Cllr Marion Atkinson, from Sefton Council, said: “2022 is truly an iconic year for the Southport Air Show with the Red Arrows appearance to help us celebrate our triumphant return to hosting huge events in the borough. We know how much of a major attraction the Red Arrows can have and we are delighted to have them perform over both days.”

However, if you can't make it to Southport there's no need to worry. Many people across Greater Manchester will still be able to catch a glimpse of the Red Arrows in flight, in some cases from their back garden.

Where to spot the Red Arrows in Greater Manchester

As the Red Arrows make their journey to Merseyside, they will briefly pass over two key points across Greater Manchester. According to their current flight plan, they will be passing over Bolton on Saturday at around 3.56pm before making their way towards Skelmersdale and passing over Wigan on the way at around 3.58pm.

However, it is important to note that times and flight paths may vary slightly depending on the weather, but it is still a good idea to set an alarm to pop your head out the window to see if you can catch a glimpse of the Red Arrows.
