Recycling firm, boss cop largest fine over toxic blaze

A massive waste facility blaze, which forced nearby residents to flee their homes to escape toxic smoke, has landed the company and its former director an environmental watchdog's largest ever fine.

The inferno ripped through the plant at Coolaroo, in Melbourne's north, on July 13, 2017 and triggered a statewide emergency response as it raged out of control for two days.
