Shubman Gill smashed 223 to lead India to their record ODI run-chase as they hauled in the West Indies’ highest-ever total of 405 with a staggering 39 balls to spare.
Captain Gill’s career-best score capped off a record-breaking match, which featured five centurions for the first time in ODI history. He reached 200 from just 117 balls, breaking compatriot Ishan Kishan’s record for the fastest ODI double century.
Gill shared a 255-run opening stand with Rohit Sharma (101) and saw his side home by eight wickets in Guwahati to claim an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
It was India’s sixth-highest ODI total and eclipsed their previous highest run-chase of 360 against Australia in 2013.
John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo all hit centuries for the visitors in their record-breaking 405 for seven.
