Record breaking strongwoman who can tow double decker bus moves to Newcastle after 'pulling' a Geordie

Welsh strongwoman Nicky Walters has Guinness World Records for pulling an eight ton cement mixer, a double decker bus and a narrow boat.

Now she has revealed she has also pulled a Geordie fella and has moved up to Newcastle to be near him.

This week Guinness confirmed she now holds the record for pulling the 7.5 ton double decker bus for 20 metres in just 41.624 seconds.

And when pulled, arm over arm, an 8.2 ton cement mixer truck, it was the heaviest upper body pull for a woman.

These are now added to her first Guinness World Record in 2020 for the fastest 50 metre pull of a 19 tonnes narrowboat for a woman in one minute, 35.53 seconds.

Nicky, 34, originally comes from Llanybydder. "It's a small place in Wales. I've moved to Newcastle and just love the place and never want to leave."

She now works in a BT call centre in Gosforth and lives in Lemington while her partner is from Gateshead.

Nicky laughed: "He stalked me on Instagram. I compete as a strongwoman - he does strongman."

Nicky has three children aged six to 13. She said: "Since I started getting into strongwoman it changed my life. I've gone from being a hermit and not leaving the house to always being out at the gym."

She admitted to being morbidly obese. "I tried to lose weight for a few months so I joined a group of women that were in a similar situation to me," she said.

"However the weight was slow to come off and I started getting addicted to how much I could push my body, how much weight I could lift.

"I got a buzz out of being able to lift more than I could the week before. I got into strongwoman in January 2018 and I had my first competition in August 2018 which I won."

She came third in the Wales Strongest Woman and is ninth strongest woman in the UK - this despite having a torn anterior deltoid.

Nicky revealed she has achieved her success despite suffering from Crohn's disease, a painful type of inflammatory bowel disease.

"It's so hard when there are flare ups. It really takes the energy from you and you have to have the will power to thing you've got to get through this."
