There were 80 more Covid-19 fatalities, the highest in the new wave, and a record high of 27,071 confirmed new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Friday morning.
This compared with the 77 coronavirus-related fatalities and 25,456 new cases reported on Thursday morning.
The figures did not include 23,157 positive results from antigen tests over the past 24 hours. This would raise the total to 50,228.
The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration reported in the afternoon that the latest 80 fatalities were between the ages of 30 and 101 years.
The new deaths included 14 in Bangkok, seven in adjacent areas, 13 in the South, 11 in the North and seven in the Northeast.
There were 26,919 new cases in the general population, 103 among prison inmates and 49 imported cases.
Of the new infections in the general population, 26,826 were confirmed at hospitals and 93 via mass testing.
Bangkok had the most new cases at 3,252, followed by 1,717 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 1,256 in Chon Buri, 976 in Samut Prakan, 942 in Samut Sakhon, 677 in Ayutthaya, 656 in Chachoengsao, 653 in Pathum Thani, 642 in Nakhon Pathom and 628 in Rayong.
On Thursday 230,603 people received Covid-19 treatment (up from 225,134 on the previous day) - 68,776 at hospitals (up from 65,207), including 1,391 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (down from 1,402) and 511 dependent on ventilators (up from 504).
The 24-hour period also saw 21,522 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
Hospital beds for seriously ill patients were 27% occupied overall, 34% in Bangkok, said CCSA spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin.
“Please take good care of yourself to help maintain the health system,” he said.
Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 3,303,169 Covid-19 cases, including 1,079,734 this year, with 3,048,491 complete recoveries to date.
The death toll stood at 24,075 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 2,377 so far this year.
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 2.07 million in 24 hours to 466.47 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 6,005 to 6.09 million.
Over the past seven days, South Korea had the most cases of 2.71 million, followed by Germany with 1.50 million cases, Vietnam with 1.26 million cases and France with 551,314 cases.
