Reckless yobs ‘drop concrete block’ on head of Scots scooter rider during footpath ‘ambush’

A Scots scooter rider believes he's lucky to be alive after being hit on the head with a concrete block that was allegedly lobbed from a bridge by a gang of ‘neds’.

Kevin McDermott believes he was the victim of a planned ‘ambush’ after coming across a large branch that had been placed across the Glasgow footpath.

The 60-year-old took to Facebook to share news of the shocking incident that took place on the River Kelvin walkway in the Maryhill area on Monday afternoon.

Glasgow Live reports that a gang of “four neds” are believed to have been responsible for the attack while Police Scotland have been called.

The singer says four 'neds' returned to the scene after he was struck by the large piece of concrete (Kevin McDermott)

Sharing pictures from the scene in a social media post, Kevin wrote: “Been ambushed on my scooter. Awaiting police.

“Branch dragged across the path then breeze block lobbed down. Hit square on the head. Had my hat on. Dead otherwise. No doubt.”

He later added: “Not my time. Counting ma blessings.

“While waiting on the polis they actually came back presumably to nick my scooter while I'm unconscious or worse.

“These were white, scumbag neds from the Wyndford/Barracks area I'd say. Staking out the walkers, cyclists etc. Four of them, one distinctively blonde in a red sweatshirt/hoody.

“The rest have dark hair, dark clothes. All 14/15. Police are looking for them. If caught the charge won't be light. There were witnesses coming from the other direction."

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
