Federal investigators have confirmed that the recalled sprouts at the center of a 15-state outbreak were distributed to only two states, leaving most of the illnesses without a traced product. The FDA outbreak advisory states directly that while alfalfa sprouts grown by Everything Sprouts, LLC of Minneapolis are a source of illness in this outbreak, those sprouts do not explain all of the illnesses.
That single sentence changes the practical meaning of the recall for households. A shopper in Florida, New Hampshire, or Washington who checks a refrigerator for the recalled Calco or Everything Sprouts packages will almost certainly not find them, because the agency has confirmed distribution only in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Yet all three of those states have confirmed cases.
