The threat of a second confidence vote on Boris Johnson’s premiership moved a step closer on Wednesday after Tory backbench MPs agreed to hold elections to its new executive early next week - a move which could lead to a change in the party’s rules.
While some Conservative MPs have called for an immediate change to the rules - which prevent the Prime Minister facing a second confidence vote inside 12 months from his last one - the 1922 Committee has decided to leave that decision to a new executive.
