Reason jury were not told of guilty plea from man who helped Thomas Cashman

The guilty plea of a man who helped Thomas Cashman as he sought to cover up the murder of Olivia Pratt-Korbel could not be publicly reported for months.

Paul Russell disposed of the clothing the child killer wore when he shot the nine-year-old schoolgirl dead inside her own home on Kingsheath Avenue in Dovecot on the evening of August 22 last year. On Halloween last year, the 41-year-old admitted assisting an offender in relation to his involvement.

But the jury were not told of this due to concerns that doing so would prejudice proceedings against 34-year-old Cashman, of Grenadier Drive in West Derby. The ECHO was also unable to report his admissions until the murderer's conviction on Thursday, almost exactly five months to the day since Russell's plea.
