The meaning behind mystery markings leading to the £48 million Gedling Access Road has been confirmed.
Nottinghamshire Live was contacted over white markings which had been painted on the B684 Plains Road, at the junction with Arnold Lane, with uncertainty as to what they stood for.
Construction of the 3.8km route began in January 2020 and is on track to be completed by Spring, following delays and soaring costs.
One reader said: "There are new road markings on the Gedling Access Road, that read 'W’DB', freshly painted on two lanes.
"No one seems to know what it means?"
It was suspected the markings could be a reference to Woodborough.
Nottinghamshire County Council says it can "confirm that the road markings are signposting towards Woodborough".
The construction team also says it will be installing new signposting in the same area to further "clarify" the markings, which could perhaps be difficult to understand for those who are not from the area.
The road, now officially called Colliery Way, was supposed to open in Autumn last year.
Costs have also soared by £8.6m due to rising costs of materials and the coronavirus pandemic.
It is anticipated it will open in March.
Gary Wood, Head of Highways and Transport, told Nottinghamshire Live: "The Gedling Access Road is on track for completion in the Spring and we are looking forward to delivering all of the associated benefits of the scheme including reduced journey times, less congestion through Gedling village and the unlocking of further investment in the local area.
“We would like to remind motorists that a night-time closure of Mapperley Plains from the junction of Gedling Road, Plains Road and Arnold Lane to Chartwell Grove will be in place from 25 January to 1 February between 8pm and 5am.
"Diversion routes are in place for motorists, HGVs and buses and we would like to thank local residents for their patience whilst we work towards completion of the scheme."
