The mid-80s was the era of Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas? and its American cousin, USA For Africa’s We Are The World raising millions for famine relief. But while pop stars flouted their philanthropy, heavy metal didn’t get a look in. Dio guitarist Vivian Campbell and bassist Jimmy Bain decided to rectify this, and entered Hollywood’s Sound City studios with an army of musicians as Hear ’n Aid.
