New North Melbourne captain Nick Larkey has paid tribute to his predecessor Jy Simpkin, saying there was no awkwardness to their AFL succession.

Larkey has taken over as captain at the Kangaroos after Simpkin unsuccessfully tried to leave in last year's trade period.
