MUMBAI: The closure of the four Covid-19 jumbo centres in the city could be a long affair spanning anywhere between two to eight months as hundreds of life-saving equipment and medical oxygen facilities have to be relocated. Amid dropping cases and hospitalisations, the jumbo hospitals at Nesco in Goregaon, Richardson and Cruddas in Mulund, Kanjurmarg and Dahisar were issued orders on Friday to start the dismantling process.
More than the disassembling of the structures, the closure of the jumbo field hospitals would involve the complex task of reallocating nearly 400 ventilators, 8,000 cots, hundreds of multipara monitors, CCTV cameras, computers and other medical equipment. Crucially, 26 PSA medical oxygen generation plants and eight mammoth liquid oxygen storage tanks will have to be reinstalled elsewhere. Those in-charge of these facilities said they had shared a list of equipment that were up for grabs about a month ago and many of the permanent civic hospitals have started putting in dibs. Together these centres have treated more than 51,500 patients and vaccinated over seven lakh people.
