Nottingham residents have spoken about feeling "unsafe" after the city centre was named Nottinghamshire's most dangerous area. According to recent police data, Nottingham City Centre and Trent Bridge was ranked number one for the highest crime rate for its population from February 2021 - January 2022.
The data threw up some worryingly high statistics such as 1,404 cases of violence and sexual assault and 528 drug offences. The neighbourhood has a crime rate of 425.1 people per 1,000 and is ranked as the 34th most dangerous in the UK.
Now, shoppers and residents have shared their thoughts on life in the city. Richard Warsop, 76, who is retired, said: "No I wouldn't say I'm surprised by that because I read about things happening in the city all the time, see it on TV where they talk about murders around here.
