Real Madrid Want to Strengthen 2 Key Positions Next Summer

Real Madrid have reportedly decided to sign a right-back and a central midfielder in the 2025 summer transfer window.

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of their most important targets for next summer.

Under the tutelage of Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League, the La Liga title, and the Supercopa de Espana in the 2023-24 season. They started the 2024-25 season on a high, beating Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup.

They hit a bit of a rough patch in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League towards the end of October, but they have since come out of it. Los Blancos are currently in second place in La Liga rankings, sitting just a point behind division leaders Atletico Madrid. They are also comfortably in the play-off zone in the Champions League and won the FIFA Intercontinental Cup by beating Mexican side Pachuca earlier in December.

Real Madrid Are Already Planning for Next Season

Reigning Spanish and European champions Real Madrid do not like to rest on their laurels. They fully understand how difficult it is to be a dominant force in Europe and know the importance of moving early.

According to Spanish outlet Diario AS, Los Blancos have decided to focus on two key areas when the summer transfer window opens in July 2025. They first want to sign a right-back who can ease the workload on Dani Carvajal. The Spaniard, who suffered an ACL in October, is currently the only natural right-back at Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold, who sees his Liverpool contract expire on 30th June, is Real Madrid’s No. 1 target for the summer. Liverpool has yet to convince Alexander-Arnold to extend his stay, and Madrid are confident that the Englishman will continue to reject their proposals and move to the Spanish capital as a free agent.

Real Madrid are also looking forward to signing a replacement for Toni Kroos, who retired after EURO 2024. Manchester City star Rodri is reportedly one of the names on their wishlist, but signing the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner will not be easy.

The All-Whites are in talks with Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies over a potential free transfer. They would love to lap him up for free but this operation is not at the top of their agenda.

Los Blancos will return to La Liga action with a clash against Valencia on 3rd January 2025.
