Frank Lampard will be looking to see something positive when he takes his side to face Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final stage. The Blues have not got on to the best of starts in Lampard's second stint after losing to Wolves at the weekend while Madrid will be looking to bounce back form their defeat to Villarreal at the weekend.
Chelsea are the unsurprising longshots in this tie at 5/1 with Betfred to surprise a few at the Bernabeau while Madrid are the favourites at 4/7 and a draw is 3/1. It is the third consecutive season the two sides have met in the Champions League knockout stages with the Blues winning in their semi-final clash back in the 2020/21 season while Madrid won in last season's quarter-final stage - both times, the winner of the tie went on to become champions.
Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti will be looking to secure a place in the semi-finals as he looks to improve on his winning record against his former employers. The 63-year-old Italian manager has faced Chelsea five times - winning just twice and losing three times - while he was at Everton before meeting again as Madrid boss last season. While he insists he is not leaving the club in the summer , with a year left on his contract, the former AC Milan will be keen to make a case why he should be able to see another season at least as Real Madrid boss.
