Real Madrid swept up at the end-of-year awards after lifting the Champions League trophy.

Karim Benzema won the competition’s Player of the Season honour with the victory over Liverpool in the final one of only three games he failed to score in.

Memorable comebacks over Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City in the knockouts were all sparked by the striker’s goals as he netted two hat-tricks to finish on 15 from 12 appearances.

Real also boasted the Young Player of the Season, which went to Vinicus Jr after his strike in Paris brought the trophy back to Madrid.

Both players featured in the Team of the Season announced by UEFA on Tuesday. Luka Modric and Thibaut Courtois were also named in the XI alongside Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe.

But it was the Premier League where the majority of the line-up came from, including four Liverpool players; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson and Fabinho.

Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger also made the cut ahead of his departure from the club, as did Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne.
