Real castle from Succession is just an hour from Bristol

As the much-anticipated fourth and final series of Succession airs on HBO and Sky Atlantic tomorrow, many fans will be turning their minds back over some of the most memorable moments from the hit US TV show.

While most of the drama revolving around media mogul Logan Roy and his family's quest for power and influence is set and filmed in America - some of the most memorable episodes were actually shot not all that far from Bristol.

Two of the Succession's key episodes, the fallout from which has reverberated throughout the series, were filmed at Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire during February and March 2018, reports Gloucestershire Live.

Around 350 cast and crew came to the historic castle, which is around an hour from Bristol, for those who fancy a day trip.

Eastnor Castle was chosen to be the location for Succession season one, episodes nine (Pre-Nuptial) and 10 (Nobody is Ever Missing) and when the crew and cast arrived, the Beast from the East and Storm Emma roared in. But as the castle explained on its website, production remained on schedule.

Filming saw a huge glass marquee put up on the lower terrace as Logan's daughter Shiv (Sarah Snook) married Tom (Matthew Macfadyen. The castle was inundated with calls, but kept tight-lipped about what the filming was for - even when someone rang to say they had seen Tom Cruise there.

With more than 350 cast and crew at the castle for nearly eight weeks, a lot of accommodation was needed in the area. As the castle bedrooms were being used as sets, self-catering holiday cottages were in demand.

The director of photography was put up at Golden Gates Lodge in the Eastnor Deer Park, while the location team stayed at Hillend House before it was renovated into a nine bedroom/bathroom rental property. Other members of the cast and crew stayed in hotels in Ledbury, Malvern, Cheltenham and Hereford.

Eastnor Castle said: "It is fair to say that once the full complement of cast and crew arrived on site. We were initially shell-shocked by the sheer volume of people and the level of activity. But after nearly eight weeks of working alongside the whole team, we all agreed that they were one of the best film crews we have had the pleasure of hosting at Eastnor Castle.

"Everyone working on Succession, without exception, from the carpenters to the sparks, to props and the locations team, to the Director, were all incredibly friendly and professional, respecting the heritage and integrity of the castle for the duration."

It added: "Congratulations Succession on your tremendous success; we are so proud to have played a small part in your incredible journey!

The upcoming, and last, series of the highly anticipated HBO drama, which follows the dysfunctional Roy family as they fight for control over a media empire, is set for release on March 27.

It is due to pick up after the Roy siblings’ failed coup and their father’s proposal to sell his global media conglomerate Waystar RoyCo to tech mogul Lukas Matsson, played by Alexander Skarsgard.

A trailer show's Logan’s attempt to grow his power, with the continued help of Shiv’s husband Tom Wambsgans, played by Matthew Macfadyen, and fan-favourite cousin Greg, played by Nicholas Braun.
