Reading v Swansea City halted after fan collapses in away end

Swansea City's Championship clash with Reading was briefly halted as a fan in the away section was attended to by medical staff.

Andy Carroll gave the Royals the lead in the 27th minute of the Championship encounter in Berkshire before Yakou Meite missed a spot-kick five minutes later.

However, there was huge concern at the Select Car Leasing Stadium moments before half-time as Swansea fans yelled for the game to be halted.

Players and coaches turned their attentions away from the match action before referee James Linington paused play - with players heading to the touchline amid concerning scenes.

Several stewards and medical staff gathered in the sold-out away end to attend to the supporter who continued to be attended to during half-time after the game had been restarted.

Head coach Russell Martin and goalkeeper coach Dean Thornton both applauded as the Swansea fans clapped in unison at a stage where the fan appeared to be attended to.

Five minutes into the half-time break, a Swansea supporter was carried out of the stands on a stretcher by the emergency services.

Sky Sports later reported a fan in the away end had fainted, and said the supporter was 'fine' after the incident.

It comes after hundreds of away fans were late arriving to the league encounter owing to the congestion on the M4.
